05 November 2025 - The Zhaga Consortium has released Edition 4 of Book18, the most widely adopted specification in the Zhaga portfolio and acornerstone of its certification program. This new edition extends theZhaga-D4i ecosystem to support heritage and decorative luminaires, addressingthe growing need for smart, connected and circular lighting solutions across outdoorand industrial environments.

Zhaga Book 18 "Smart InterfaceBetween Outdoor Luminaires and Sensing/Communication Modules" defines astandardized mechanical interface, intra-luminaire communication protocol, andpower budget

for control devices such as sensors andcommunication nodes. It provides the foundation for

interoperable, serviceable, andupgradeable outdoor lighting systems, forming the backbone of modern

smart and sustainable cityinfrastructure.

Edition 4 introduces important updatesdesigned specifically for applications where traditional luminaire designs mustmeet today's digital requirements. It now:

• Allows pole-mounted bracketassemblies, making smart connectivity possible for heritage and decorativeluminaires with diverse shapes and forms.

• Addresses installation challenges by supportinglonger connection cables between the luminaire and bracket assembly, while ensuringrobust and reliable communication across these extended distances.

• In the context of the joint Zhaga-D4icertification program developed together with DALI Alliance, defines surgeprotection functionalities for this specific configuration, ensuringreliability in demanding environments.*
